On July 16, I was offered a great opportunity to head to St. Louis and shoot the Stubb’s BBQ sponsored Nascar for the Campingworld.com 200 at the Gateway International Speedway.
Kevin Harvick (the driver) won the pole position position on Friday evening. However, due to a car accident down the road from the track, the power went out and the race had to be canceled until the following day.
Saturday was met with a lot of excitement. I had hoped to get a lot of action shots with big packs of cars on the track, but Keven ended up leading all but 17 of the 160 laps. And, while in the lead, he had 6-7 seconds on the rest of the pack, leaving him far ahead of everyone.
Being in the pits was especially exciting. I’ve never been that close to the action when drivers come in for gas and tires. I would definitely say, even if you’re not a Nascar fan, you must go to at least one race in your life, and hang out in the pits.

After just over two long years of being on a hiatus from my radio show, I’m finally going back on the air with my good friend Alan. It’s hard to say what we’ll be doing from week to week. Sometimes we’ll be mixing anything from nubreaks and ragga-jungle and hiphop to drum and bass all the way to breakcore.
We may also take on a sort of Howard Stern format with guests just talking trash on random albums we find on netlabels around the web.
Be sure to tune in on Tuesay nights from 9-11pm EST on www.destroyer.net
After a couple of years of popping off shots with my camera, and it’s stock lens, I finally got around to exploring new lenses. I didn’t want another zoom, and I have been getting more interested in portraits. I also love shooting closeups of things so I went for a Nikon 50mm/1.4 (D) prime lens.
I haven’t had much time to really get into shooting. But, I was able to get out in my back yard and snap a couple shots of random vegetation. This shot is the best of what I took.

As with the previous post, this actually being my first attempt, I wanted to get close to that HDR look, without making it look fake and overly airbrushed. Bringing out detail and putting in lighting where it didn’t exist before was my primary goal with this photo.
If you were to be standing in the spot I shot this from, you’d most definitely see all the amazing detail in, not only the stone work, but the mural in the entryway.
I’m not posting the original this time, but I can assure you it was much more flat and lifeless than this version.
I’ve been researching different methods for that HDR (High Dynamic Range) look. Quite honestly, after all the reading I’ve done and tutorials I’ve watched, the more I learned, the less I liked the look. I’ve also really been quite interested in the works of Dave Hill and Joey L. They pretty much just take portraits, but the look is a little more HD than your standard flat image straight out of your camera.
So I took a little of what I already knew, a little of what I read and watched on a few tutorials and began to apply some of the techniques to architectural photos I’ve been working on for a project at work. Additionally, I thought this photo was way to boring and needed a much more dramatic sky. Anyway, here’s the before/after.

A few minutes ago, I decided to take down the overly, but well, designed theme I put together for this site, and strip it down to a blank canvas. Coincidentally, the theme I chose is called Empty Canvas.
Anyway. I’ve felt like I need to spend less time on promoting the fact that I’m a graphic designer, photographer and videographer, with a flashy website that has all kinds of bells and whistles and take a step back to look at myself for what I am, an artist. That said, I’m going to gradually build off this design over time. Much like I did when I picked up my first crayon and whatever blank piece of scratch-paper my mom found for me.
As with the previous version of this site, that I just completed like a month ago, this will be a dumping ground for all things hue-e. Feel free to poke around or hit me up with questions or inquiries about freelance, etc. Or don’t, but certainly check back… I’ll be filling this site with even more content.
